There's been some non-picturable updates. First, it turns out 2 of my old valves were shot, and one was borderline. So I went ahead and bought all new ("modern") valves, seats, adjustable lifters, and new springs. I also had the machine shop cut the tops off the lifter galleys so the adjustments can be made without having to turn the crank back & forth to get things into position (it sounds the pain)
Finally, I brought the engine home yesterday. All the parts are on the garage floor, and now my back is too sore to do much else but take a picture of this rebuild tag that was attached to the block. I had asked the machine shop to do their best to preserve it, and it looks like it was attached with some brass scrivets. I'll need to go to McMaster Carr to get some Screw Nails.
